Dickson meets with the NIC ICTU regarding Strikes (Minimum Service Levels) Bill
Stewart Dickson MLA, Alliance spokesperson for the Economy, has met with representatives from the Northern Ireland Committee of the Irish Congress of Trade Unions (NIC ICTU) to discuss the proposed Strikes (Minimum Service Levels) Bill.
Stewart Dickson said: “The Strikes Bill is an attack on the rights of working people and a threat to our democracy. It undermines the right to strike, which is essential for protecting workers and promoting fair labour practices. The Alliance Party stands with our colleagues in NIC ICTU and opposes this Bill.”
Mr. Dickson also noted that employment law is a devolved matter in Northern Ireland, and such legislation would not apply here unless there is a prolonged impasse without a local Assembly or Executive. However, he continued: “It is still critical that the DUP put an end to their political games, prioritise the restoration of Stormont and avoid direct rule. We cannot allow them to hold workers’ rights hostage.”
Dickson Concluded: “The Alliance Party is committed to opposing any legislation that undermines workers’ rights and public safety. We will continue to work with the NIC ICTU, and others, to ensure that rights of working people are protected and that fair labour practices are upheld in Northern Ireland.”
