Dickson Elated with Alliance Surge in Local Elections
Alliance East Antrim MLA, Stewart Dickson, has expressed delight at the success of Alliance candidates across Northern Ireland, but especially in the local Mid and East Antrim Council area.
On Thursday 2nd May, the Alliance Party had its best election since 1977, gaining 21 seats and capturing 11.5% of the first-preference vote across Northern Ireland.
Mr Dickson commented: “All across Northern Ireland people rejected the sectarian scaremongering and voted for a better future. This success was mirrored in Mid and East Antrim Borough Council where we are now the second-equal largest party with seven seats, after more than doubling our representation and topping the poll in three areas.
Young people seemed to have had a big impact too, and rightly so, they suffer the most as the sectarian stalemate puts their future on hold.
The Alliance Party offers politics that delivers and solutions to problems, not just slogans or the ‘megaphone diplomacy’ of Sinn Fein and the DUP. Mark my words, change for the better is coming to councils all across Northern Ireland, not least in Mid and East Antrim.
As the local Election Organiser for Alliance in Mid and East, I want to thank all those candidates and activists who have worked hard over the past few months to put forward our platform. I also want to express gratitude to the voters who put their trust in us to deliver a better future for Northern Ireland.
