Childhood Vaccinations

Recently several parents have been in touch with me regarding overdue childhood vaccinations, and the process of receiving these via their GP. I have written to the Minister to ask what the process is.

Childhood vaccinations are provided by GPs to children registered with their practice.

However, I have been made aware of cases where children have waited many months, with parents struggling to get clear information, timescales, or a plan.

Practices are regularly informed by Child Health Service about children who are overdue their vaccines, and practice teams will then be in touch with parents to determine when their vaccinations will be scheduled and an appointment date organised.

I will be continuing the push this issue, to ensure all children who are eligible are receiving their vaccines in a timely manner.

In the meantime, I would encourage any parent who is concerned their child may be due or overdue a vaccine to contact their GP, who will organise a vaccine appointment.
