Important for EU Citizens to Stay Informed about Settlement Scheme – Dickson

East Antrim Alliance MLA, has encouraged EU Citizens to keep up to date on the EU Settlement Scheme which will open fully on 30 March 2019.

The EU Settlement Scheme is being set up to allow EU citizens and their family members currently living, working and studying in the UK to stay for as long as they like, after the UK leaves the EU. It also means EU Citizens will continue to have access to public services, pensions and British Citizenship if they meet the requirements, and want to apply.

Mr Dickson commented: “The current Brexit chaos, which many predicted from the very start, should not be a reason to ignore the Brexit transition arrangements. EU citizens need to stay informed so they can make serious decisions about their future.

“I am glad the Government has guaranteed the rights of those who chose to come to the UK from the EU to contribute to our society, both socially and economically. Many people have made their homes here, had children and made friends, it is only right we look out for them. I am optimistic that most will decide to stay and continue their contribution. We can only hope British Citizens elsewhere receive similar treatment.”
