Stewart Dickson MLA ‘Disgusted’ by Oil Theft from Children’s Home in Whitehead
East Antrim Alliance MLA, Stewart Dickson, has expressed his disgust after hearing of the theft of an estimated £1000 worth of heating oil from Whitehaven Respite Unit in Whitehead during the New Year period. According to the staff at Whitehaven an overnight stay for some of the children had to be cancelled and caused great distress.
1,500 litres of heating oil was stolen from the home which provides respite care for children with disabilities across NI. The theft caused great distress because the children were not able to stay overnight, and according to Staff, many children who were excited about staying overnight were left disappointed.
Mr Dickson said in a statement, “These actions are appalling and disgusting, especially as they target a service that provides help and support to people in the local community.” He also added that he has “great sympathy for the children who weren’t able to have their overnight stay and were left upset and distraught, and I would call upon anyone with information regarding the theft to contact the PSNI”.
