Dickson Welcomes Completed Infrastructure Work in Mid and East Antrim

East Antrim Alliance MLA, Stewart Dickson, welcomes Transport NI update on the Mid and East Antrim Infrastructure Programme.

Mr Dickson said: “People across East Antrim, and the wider areas, will feel the benefits of completed Infrastructure Projects, both in the local communities and when commuting.

“Following the extremely positive news from Transport NI, I will continue to push the Minister for Infrastructure to carry out the York Street Interchange Project. The success in East Antrim shows that the York Street Interchange Project is, and must be made, possible.

“Work on the A26 Frosses Road is now over 70% completed. It is wonderful news that the dualling scheme is on track to be open to traffic in the summer of 2017.

“There will also be the completion of much needed resurfacing schemes in the coming months. This will include the A42 Main Street, Portglenone, the A43 Glenravel Road, Cargan; the B53 Kilgad Road, Kells; and the B100 Ballyrickard Road, Larne.

“Further Infrastrucuture work will be seen with a £242,000 upgrade to the Vehicle Restraint System at the A8 Harbour Highway and sea defence repairs at Branch Road and Cairncastle Road, Ballygally, are also nearing completion.

“Additional funding secured in the Stormont October monitoring round will facilitate the delivery of a further £1.2million of structural maintenance work in the Mid and East Antrim Council area this financial year.

Concluding Mr Dickson said: “This is also excellent news for the rural areas of Mid and East Antrim. In addition to £300,000 invested in surface dressing treatment on 53km of carriageway, more than 10km of rural roads have also been resurfaced under the Rural Roads Initiative at a cost of £500,000.”
