Dickson Delighted that Study USA Will Go Ahead this Year
East Antrim Alliance MLA, Stewart Dickson, has expressed his delight that 61 students from across Northern Ireland will be able to partake in the Study USA programme in 2021/22.
Mr Dickson said: “It is so vital that our young people have the opportunity to avail of programmes like Study USA. Not just because these programmes are massively beneficial to their career prospects, but also because those partaking return to Northern Ireland with fresh ideas and a multitude of transferable skills that they can go on to share locally.
“Studying abroad broadens the mind, and the personal and professional growth of these individuals helps Northern Ireland more generally to be an outward looking, diverse, and creative place to live and work”.
The students have been selected to take part in the Department for the Economy’s prestigious Study USA programme and will spend the next academic year studying business or STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) related subjects in American colleges, across 28 states, with the aim of developing their career prospects when they return to Northern Ireland.
Since its formation in 1994, the DfE initiative has sent over 2,000 students from Northern Ireland to all four corners of the United States.
