Minister's Answer
My department has developed a draft Active Travel Delivery Plan which sets out how we propose to prioritise delivery of active travel infrastructure for the next 10 years and beyond. The plan includes draft network maps for larger settlements, including Larne, Carrickfergus and Greenisland in the East Antrim area, with the aim of encouraging people to consider walking, wheeling or cycling for shorter everyday journeys.
Public consultation on the draft plan runs until 28 February 2025. I would encourage all those with an interest in development of high quality, safe pedestrian and cycling infrastructure to engage with this consultation.
My department is also updating our design guidance for active travel infrastructure based on current national and international best practice for the design of high-quality active travel infrastructure. Future schemes will be delivered in line with this updated guidance.
