Alliance party MLA for East Antrim, Stewart Dickson, has welcomed a student from Carrickfergus Academy, Sasha McCalmont, to the Alliance Constituency Office to undertake a week of work experience.
Sasha said that: “Working with the Alliance Party has been quite an exciting and interesting learning opportunity as it has allowed me to be able to see how an MLA operates and how they are able to work with their constituents to be able to resolve issues within their communities.
“It is fascinating to be able to see how a political representative operates and I have really enjoyed learning how to answer peoples questions on the phone, edit the website, write speeches and emails to respond to those who may have issues. It was all very intriguing to be able to learn about how these issues are solved by the MLA. I really enjoyed writing about an issue that I want to be resolved in Northern Ireland. I decided to write about the waiting lists in hospitals in Northern Ireland.”
Mr Dickson said: “I am thrilled to see more young people having an interest in politics and I’m glad to see that Sasha has an interest in the environment and that she is so passionate about the subject. I hope to see more young people like Sasha go into a political career in the future.”
Mr Williams said: “Sasha was great with constituents and is so passionate about helping other people which is fantastic.”
Sasha concluded: “It has been such an great chance to learn and to be able to see first-hand what happens in a Constituency Office. I have gleaned so much from working with an elected representative and I am extremely grateful to have had an opportunity like this.”
