As Northern Ireland Executive Flounders, Glenarm Suffers

East Antrim Alliance MLA, Stewart Dickson, has expressed his concern the impact an election will have on resolving the GP problem in Glenarm.

Antrim Coast Medical Centre will face an uncertain future as the current GP retires. While the post had been advertised, no applications were made.

Mr Dickson said: “I have been questioning the Minister about her intentions to resolve the issue in Glenarm for a number of months. More recently, I have been trying to arrange a meeting with department officials to discuss potential solutions.

“Discussions are still ongoing with neighbouring GP practices to merge with the Antrim Coast Medical Practice. However, the election will be sure to further complicate matters.”

“Glenarm is an example of the wider Health Service crisis. There are simply not enough GPs in Northern Ireland.”

Despite the impending election, Mr Dickson has stated he will spend his remaining days in the Assembly exerting pressure on the Minister to find a GP for Glenarm.
