Dickson Taking Action On Future of Kilroot and Ballylumford Power Stations
East Antrim Alliance MLA, Stewart Dickson, has secured meetings over the next few weeks with the Trade Unions at Kilroot Power Station, the Utility Regulator and the System Operator (SONI) to seek a way forward for Kilroot. He also has plans to arrange future meetings with AES Management.
Stewart Dickson will be accompanied by party colleague and Former Employment Minister, Dr Stephen Farry MLA. Their aim will be to explore the future prospects and options for both Kilroot and Ballylumford power stations and to explore the future employment prospects at both plants.
Mr Dickson said, “There remain many unanswered questions on the security of electricity supply. I welcome the input of Wind Turbines, however there are legitimate questions about the security of supply on those days with very little wind when only so much power can be generated."
“These meetings are to gain assurances from all the relevant parties that they can continue to provide a secure supply of electricity for consumption in Northern Ireland.”
Mr Dickson concluded: “All of this is predicated on securing the North-South Interconnector on time, so we will also be seeking assurances with regards to that, otherwise the questions of the security of electricity supply in Northern Ireland will return.”
